Ok wow, I am a little nervous to dive right into my inner thoughts and setbacks, but here is my story of struggle and determination.
I set out for college half way across the country to pursue a career in physical therapy while playing college soccer and track. Long story short, after 2 internships in physical therapy I realized I needed more, I needed a career that would allow me to help more people. While my peers were applying for PT school I was searching for “other opportunities”. I stumbled upon personal training through an internship at a small gym in the Biltmore area run by a doctor of exercise. (What is that really a thing?) Low and behold Dr. Ben had every degree possible in exercise, his resume was 4 pages long!! Needless to say I was excited about the opportunity. I dove in and learned everything I could from him.
Personal training has been incredibly rewarding. I have been able to change so many peoples lives for the better through creating lifestyle changes, no quick fixes here, truly helping people live better longer lives!
So, now comes the juicy part! My struggles…
I have always been a “bigger girl”. In my silly little brain!!!! I have struggled with my weight since my freshman year of college. All that food available all day, it was like an all inclusive resort with endless buffets! Sure we were working hard with 2 a days for soccer, until our soccer season ended….and here came the weight gain. Oh no I’m not talking freshman 15, I’m talking FRESHMAN 30! You can imagine as an athlete this wasn’t easy to accept and deal with. I hid under many layers of clothes for YEARS!
The first 4 years of my training career were amazing. They taught me so much about building lean tissue and losing fat. I quickly applied these methods, lost the fat, and felt great. But I wasn’t completely satisfied. When I looked in the mirror, I still saw the FAT me! I know, I know this is ridiculous. Come to find out, its an actual disorder. Body Dysmorphia!
I have helped 100’s of clients lose weight and improve their lives. I have 4 basic methods that I use in the transformation process. Diet, Exercise, Hormones, and Gut Health. In reality pretty simple, when you actually follow the plan.
Then what’s my problem! Why am I not at my ideal body fat percentage and weight? Why am I still struggling?
It’s simple! I have been stuck hating myself, instead of actually applying my methods and listening to myself. I have been mentally beating myself up for years, making excuses, and HIDING from the truth.
I knew I needed help. So I hired a coach! Yes, even coaches need coaches. How else are we going to grow and learn? It hasn’t been easy but it has been worth it.
I have some huge goals for myself and now I have all the tools I need.
Here is what I have implemented:
- Meal Plan and Prepping- 90 day commitment to clean eating with 1700 calories, 35% Carbs, 35% Fat, 30% Protein.
- Accountability Coach- Daily check-ins through text of my food log.
- Daily Move Goals- 30 min of exercise a day alternating between Hiit, Spin, Running, and Rowing.
- Daily Affirmations- I am strong, I am beautiful, I am capable.
Low and behold……IT’s WORKING! No more self doubt, no more self pity. Simply loving myself, fueling my body for life, and moving more each day.
So here I am today….healthier and happier than I have ever been! I am so excited, rejuvenated, and BACK to help change more lives!
